COUNSELLING SERVICES - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I make an appointment to see a counsellor?
To set up an appointment call the Centre between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at (705) 748-5901. Calls from the counties of Peterborough, Northumberland, Haliburton, and the City of Kawartha Lakes can call toll free at 1-866-298-7778. Speak with a counsellor or if she is unavailable leave your name and the telephone number where you can be reached and if it is safe to leave a message on your answering machine or with someone. A counsellor will call you to set up an appointment.
   
How often will I see the counsellor?
How often you meet with the counsellor will depend on a number of factors such as, where you are in your healing process, what type of services you need, what issues you are working through, etc. Some women will meet with the counsellor weekly over a long period of time, and some women may only meet a counsellor a few times. You and the counsellor will make this decision together based on your personal needs.
Is there a charge for counselling services at the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre?
All counselling services are free.
 
Is there a charge to attend a group at the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre?
There are no charges for any of the services at the Centre.
 
What types of groups does the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre offer?
The Centre offers many different types of groups such as Child Sexual Assault Survivors Group, Sexual Assault Survivors Group as well as many others.For more information regarding group please contact the Centre at (705) 748-5901.
 
How old do I have to be to use the services?
The Centre provides services to those who are 16 years of age and older.
 
Does the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre offer services to men?
The Centre offers Outreach counselling throughout the counties of Peterborough, Northumberland, Haliburton, and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Do I have to make a statement to police if I tell a counsellor at the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre that I have been sexually assaulted?
If you are 16 years of age and older the Centre has no legal obligation to report sexual assault to the police and therefore no report is made.
A counsellor will be able to give you the necessary information you will need to make an informed decision about reporting to police.
If you are 16 years of age or younger the Centre must notify the Children's Aid Society if you tell us you have been sexually assaulted.
