Groups and Workshops

The Centre offers many different types of workshops and group counselling.  You will be asked to consult with us so that we can share what the group or workshop is about and how you might fit in with a group setting.  We offer psycho-educational groups and workshops, therapeutic groups, and expressive arts groups.  Please fill in a Request For Service Form to begin this process.

Upcoming Workshops

SEED

SEED (Support, Education, Empowerment, & Developing Strategies) is a psycho-educational series on healing from sexual violence. In a supportive environment, we explore how the brain responds to trauma, discuss trauma related symptoms and identify positive strategies for coping and self-care.
Participants will not be asked to share details of their trauma history.

Tuesdays, October 16th, 23, 30, November 6 – 6:00pm to 8:30pm

 

WINGS (Wisdom in Grounding Self) is a 4-week therapeutic practice group for survivors of sexual violence, female-identified or non-binary, focused on mindfulness, grounding and self-compassion.
Participants will not be asked to share details of their trauma history.

Tuesdays, November 13, 20, 27, Dec 4 – 6:00pm to 8:30pm

 

PurlsofWisdomLogo

Purls of Wisdom is a weekly multi-generational knitting circle that involves older women who have been trained by the Centre to provide mentorship, leadership and wisdom to young people who have experienced trauma. This intergenerational knitting circle will offer valuable skills and strategies that can assist young people with managing stress and anxiety.

When: Tuesdays-weekly
Time: 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Where: Library, Fleming College Sutherland Campus
Registration: Free and open to anyone. No knitting experience required. All material provided. Drop-in or weekly attendance are welcome.

 

WeavingOurVoices

Weaving Our Voices expressive arts group for survivors of sexual violence, is an 8-week series for women inspiring healing through art and sharing. We join together to break our isolation, connect with support services, and to share wisdom and information. Please call the Centre for upcoming dates at 705-748-5901.

Yearly: Winter

 

Mood Walks is a therapeutic walking group for survivors of sexual violence. Promoting physical wellness, mindfulness and supported by our Peer Facilitators. * Please be advised, this group will require physical endurance such as walking up to an hour at a steady pace.

Fridays, October 5, 12 and 19, November 2 – 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Please contact the Centre to register 705-748-5901. Must be able to walk 60 to 90 mins.

 

Building Internal Resilience Through Horses (2 Groups running starting September 2018)
For youth who identify as female, ages 12 – 18yrs, who have experienced harm in their home environment. As part of a research project B.I.R.T.H combines expressive arts, psychoeducation and working with Horses that promotes, coping skills, emotional awareness, healthy self-esteem and personal resilience.
Tuesdays – Beginning September 25, 4:00pm to 6:00pm (10 weeks)
Thursdays – Beginning September 27, 4:00pm to 6:00pm (10 weeks)

 

MAST (Mindful Awareness Stability Training) KSAC will be partnering with the Central East LHIN to offer the first MAST workshop in the region (developed at St. Michael’s Hospital). This is an introductory mindfulness program to manage anxiety. Open to all community and not only clients of KSAC. Please see the registration link below for more details – 10 spots available.

This is a Peer led arts based drop-in for female-identified or non-binary individuals who enjoy arts, or would like to use arts to assist in grounding, coping and building strategies around managing stress and anxiety.
